Spike Jonze - “her” (2013)
Candles aren’t burning for us.
We didn’t leave unfinished dinner on the table.
And that’s alright.
The door opens and it draws me in.
Finally, the best part of the day.
A smile to myself. Another smile.
I know what’s coming.
Lights dim.
A familiar voice enters the room.
Stories, thoughts, heartfelt laughter -
Immersed without end,
Entranced.
Hello there.
Let’s share a little joy.
I don’t know you, but I love what you represent.
Help me get through the day, again.
Dull, gray voices.
I don’t care about their interests and questions.
I’m just a nodding, fake-smiling robot during the day.
They leave me drained.
Rushing home.
Turning on.
The voice on the screen lights up my day.
Strangers make me better, somehow.
If it isn’t real, why does it make me feel alive?
And it’s been a while now.
I want you to have more flaws.
Ha! Am I sabotaging us?
As if we were a real thing?
How foolish.
Just trying to make it easier for myself…
Because…
I wish we could meet. Yes, please.
I wish we could meet. Please, no.
This isn’t an escape;
You’re a thread in the fabric of my reality.
They wonder what’s happening to me -
Why am I so quiet, smiling like a secret?
They don’t understand,
And I don’t mind.
A smile sneaks onto my lips.
Precisely timed happiness is here.
Hey! You’re in my ears once again.
And look, I sleep soundly now.
At last.
Your darkness brings me peace.
I understand why you enjoy it.
Your wisdom wrapped in silliness.
I know what you’re up to.
Maybe one day, I’ll lose interest.
Maybe your voice will fade forever.
But for now, you’re here for me.
Please don’t disappear…
Tomorrow will mirror today.
Again.
And that’s all I seek.
You showed me what’s best for me
Myself.
I’m drifting to sleep as you live on your secret life.
